Qur’an: Tafsir Juzz Amma

Taught by Saquab Ashraf. Once a month (90mins)

These classes intend to unravel the meanings and relationships to be found within the last portion of the Qur’an. The suras are well known, recited frequently in congregational prayers and traditionally memorised by muslims. The classes intend to deal with these suras at four levels:

1. Presentation of the thematic material covered by the Sura
2. Presentation of the linguistic styles to be found within the Sura.
3. The relationship, coherence and progression of material found within the Sura.
4. The relationship and coherence within this Sura group: a study of the linguistic and thematic link(s) of each sura with the previous and following suras.

Points one to three above will utilise well-known commentaries of the Qur’an, such as Razi and Qurtabi. The last point will be based primarily on the work of Imam Suyuti and his work entitled Asrar Tartib al-Qur’an – Secrets of the arrangement in the Qur’an. Reference will also be made to the works of Hamiduddin Farahi and Amin Islahi where appropriate.
