Please read through frequently asked questions. These FAQs are updated each year once the walk registration opens.

TRAVEL

1. Where will the coach depart from and at what time to leave for Beachy Head?

There will be two departure points: Friends House and Pease Pottage Services (Sussex, M23).

The Coach will depart from Friends House, London, NW1 2BJ (Coach collection/drop off will be Endsleigh Gardens) at 9.00am.

The Sussex pick-up point will be from Pease Pottage Services, M23 Junction 11, RH11 9YA at 11:15am.

All participants are advised to arrive well in advance as the coach will leave promptly on time.

Attendees will need to specify their departure point in the registration form. Please note departure and drop off point will need to be the same.

2. Parking

There is usually parking space available on the streets surrounding Friends House if you plan to arrive by car. Be sure to check signs for any parking restrictions. The departure point is within the ULEZ, so please be aware of this. Parking on the Euston Station side is outside the congestion zone but within ULEZ.

Parking at Pease Pottage Services is available for a fee, but free on-street parking is also available within walking distance on Old Brighton Road (North), RH11 9BG.

3. Can I arrange my own transport?

Due to logistical concerns and other factors on the day, this will NOT be possible. ALL participants must travel with the group by coach.

4. Where will the coach drop us off AFTER the walk and at what time?

The coaches will drop participants off at their selected pick-up location, either Friends House, Euston, NW1 2BJ, or Pease Pottage Services, RH11 9YA.

The aim is to return to London at around 10.30/11pm insha’Allah. Please note that the given times are approximations and may change depending on conditions on the day.

DURING WALK

5. Will food be served?

It is best to bring snacks along for the walk. Locally sourced fish and chips plus mashie peas will be provided after the walk. A bottle of water will be provided at the start of the walk.

There will be a coach stop en route to freshen up and pick up any refreshments.

6. What is the itinerary for the day?

The itinerary with a map of the route can be found by clicking on Beachy Head 2023.

7. Are children allowed to attend?

There is no pushchair access on the walking route and it is therefore NOT advisable to bring young children. Older children are welcome to attend, but please note that they will be required to pay a full price ticket.

Please also note that while the walk itself is safe, the location contains some of the highest cliff edges in Britain. Children under 16 must therefore be supervised by their parent(s) or guardian(s), keeping at least 5 metres from the cliff edge at all times.

8. What do I need to bring with me on the walk?

Participants should come appropriately dressed with walking boots, trousers, a large scarf (to sit on if need be), umbrella and waterproof coat in case it rains, and a good camera!

GENERAL

9. Is the trip for CEI students only?

Not at all! The trip is open to ALL.

10. Can I get a refund?

Please note that after 28th July it will not be possible to get a refund.

11. What if it is raining on the day?

Bring an umbrella and raincoat and we will continue as planned!

12. How long will the walk take?

The route is easy to moderate in terms of difficulty, and is approximately 4m long. The walk takes about 2.5 hours, without any pitstops. With our pitstops, we hope to complete the walk in about 4 hours.

13. How easy is the walk?

The walk level is moderate.

Moderate – walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.

14. How long is the coach journey?

Including a stop over at the service station (Pease Pottage Service station on the M23), the coach journey from London will take approximately 3.5 hours.
