ANNUAL WALK | OVERVIEW
Saunterer’s Path is CEI’s annual summer walk. Since 2012, we have chosen a piece of coast to walk along in the south of England. Along the route we stop to recite verses of Qur’an, poetry, devotional songs, listen to short reminders and absorb the stunning scenery around us to reflect on God’s creation. Scroll down for the programme concept, and click on past saunters for full details of all our previous walks since 2012.
Next Saunterer’s Path: Saturday 24th August 2024.
For full details of this years walk click on St Margaret’s Bay, Dover 2024,. See the FAQs for travel, departure points etc. Click on register to complete the registration process and view ticketing options.
Our simple concept stems from the long-held tradition, both Islamic and English, of walking- or rather sauntering. The idea of walking as a spiritual endeavour, through nature and the wilderness, has long been espoused by scholars and composers of poetry and prose alike.
“Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving. It doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again, come, come.”
“Indeed! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding”
Every year we choose a piece of coast to walk along in the south of England. Along the route we stop to recite verses of Qur’an, poetry and devotional song whilst amidst beautiful scenery that provides a backdrop and aids in our spiritual endeavour.
“Now I yearn for one of those old, meandering, dry uninhabited roads, which lead away from towns, which lead us away from temptation…where you may forget in what country you are travelling…where my spirit is free…where your head is more in heaven than your feet are on Earth…” Henry David Thoreau
“Come forth into the light of thing. Let nature be your teacher.” William Wordworth
“I found him in the shining of the stars.” Lord Tennyson
Saunterer’s Path is open to all, allowing us to come together to spend time contemplating the Qur’an all in the company of like minded CEI students and teachers.
We complete each walk with locally sourced fish, chips and mushy peas. A bottle of water is also provided at the start of the walk.
