We are joined each year by a proficient Qur’an reciter to lead the Tarawih prayers. Click on the below to listen to a short extract from one of the previous years.
In 2023, we recited Q. 28 in the Tarawih prayers:
We recount to you [Prophet] part of the story of Moses and Pharaoh, setting out the truth for people who believe.
Pharaoh made himself high and mighty in the land and divided the people into different groups: one group he oppressed, slaughtering their sons and sparing their women––he was one of those who spread corruption.
Q. 28:3-4
In 2022, we recited Q. 25 in the Tarawih prayers:
Exalted is He who has sent the Differentiator down to His servant so that it may be a warning to all people. It is He who has control over the heavens and earth and has no offspring––no one shares control with Him––and who created all things and made them to an exact measure.Yet the disbelievers take as their gods things beneath Him that create nothing, and are themselves created, that can neither harm nor help themselves, and have no control over death, life, or resurrection.
Q. 25:1-3
In 2019, we recited Q. 23 in the Tarawih prayers:
[How] prosperous are the believers!
Those who pray humbly, who shun idle talk, who pay the prescribed alms, who guard their chastity except with their spouses or their slaves––with these they are not to blame, but anyone who seeks more than this is exceeding the limits–who are faithful to their trusts and pledges and who keep up their prayers, will rightly be given Paradise as their own, there to remain.
Q. 23:1-11
In 2018, we recited Q. 22 in the Tarawih prayers:
We showed Abraham the site of the House, saying, ‘Do not assign partners to Me. Purify My House for those who circle around it, those who stand to pray, and those who bow and prostrate themselves. Proclaim the Pilgrimage to all people.
They will come to you on foot and on every kind of swift mount, emerging from every deep mountain pass to attain benefits and celebrate God’s name, on specified days, over the livestock He has provided for them- feed yourselves and the poor and unfortunate- so let the pilgrims perform their acts of cleansing, fulfill their vows, and circle around the Ancient House.’
Q. 22:26-29
In 2017, we recited Q. 21 in the Tarawih prayers:
We gave Moses and Aaron [the Scripture] that distinguishes right from wrong, a light and a reminder for those who are mindful of God, those who stand in awe of their Lord, though He is unseen, and who fear the Hour.
