Please read through frequently asked questions. These FAQs are updated each year once the walk registration opens.
Last updated: 18 July 2025.
1. What will the Travel plan be ?
There will be a group travelling by train from London Victoria (journey time approx. 1hr 30mins). Full details will be provided to registered participants.
Please refer to your registration pack for train times, arrival and meeting points, registration and walk start times. Email event@ceiuk.com if you have not received your pack, with your name and proof of donation.
Allow some extra time to travel given it is a bank holiday weekend and trains and roads will be busy.
Plan ahead, check your route, bring snacks and look out for any notifications sent by CEI either on Instagram, email or text (For any changes)
2. Parking
Parking is available near the starting point, please be aware that it is a bank holiday and it will be busy. Take note of any signs listed at parking bays as some only allow a short stay.
Parking locations and meeting point will be outlined in the registration packs.
3. Can I arrange my own transport?
Yes, all participants will be expected to arrange their own travel by train or car. The registration pack will contain details of the meeting points and times as well as the options to join the group travel.
4. How long will the walk take?
The route will normally take around 4 hours in total, that includes the talks, breaks and stopping for food.
5. Will food be served?
It is best to bring snacks along for the walk. Locally sourced fish and chips plus mushy peas will be provided after the walk. A bottle of water will be provided at the start of the walk.
6. What is the itinerary for the day?
The itinerary registration pack will be emailed upon the denotation to register.
7. Are children allowed to attend?
We do not recommend bringing small children, pushchairs, or carrying infants, as the day will be long. Older children are welcome; they will need to register and purchase a ticket
Please also note that while the walk itself is safe, the location contains some of the highest cliff edges in Britain. Children under 16 must therefore be supervised by their parent(s) or guardian(s), keeping at least 5 metres from the cliff edge at all times.
8. What do I need to bring with me on the walk?
Participants should come appropriately dressed for a hike, have a look at the weather beforehand and consider clothing for all weathers given how close we are to the sea.
9. Is the trip for CEI students only?
Not at all! The trip is open to ALL.
10. Can I get a refund?
Given the nature of the payment, being a donation, we will not be able to refund you once you have donated.
11. What if it is raining on the day?
Bring an umbrella, raincoat, waterproof trousers and shoes, and we will continue as planned! It might also be sensible to bring an extra pair of socks, clothes etc.
12. How easy is the walk?
The walk level is moderate.
Moderate – walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness.
